STATEMENT: Prime Minister Resignation
January 6, 2025

The Prime Minister has made a difficult decision. I respect his thorough, careful consideration of the issues and his deep regard for what Canadians are calling for at this time. His message is clear: country first.

Prime Minister Trudeau is one of the most progressive Prime Ministers since Lester B Pearson. He successfully presided over the first Trump presidency, appointed the first gender-balanced cabinet, kept Canadians safe during a global pandemic, and implemented far-reaching progressive programs that have lifted millions of Canadians out of poverty.

Regarding what comes next for the Liberal Party, our steadfast commitment to Liberal values will guide our discussions and actions over the coming weeks. As we undertake a leadership process, I will work to ensure we select a leader who understands the challenges and the opportunities for Sudbury and northern Ontario. As the MP for Sudbury, I remain deeply committed to the work and will continue to advocate for the best interests of Sudbury.
