MP Viviane Lapointe elected Chair of Ontario Caucus

Sudbury, ON – Member of Parliament for Sudbury, Viviane Lapointe, has been selected to serve as Chair of the Ontario Liberal Caucus.

The Ontario Liberal Caucus is the third largest caucus on Parliament Hill, next to the Liberal National Caucus, chaired by Prime Minister Mark Carney, and the CPC Caucus, chaired by Pierre Poilievre.

There were three MPs in the race for the Chair position. The two other MPs – Iqra Khalid and Chris Bittle - were both from southern Ontario. An election was held on Friday where members of the Ontario Caucus cast their vote. Lapointe was confirmed as the winner and assumed the Chair position immediately.

“I would like to thank my colleagues from across Ontario for their vote of confidence. It is a pivotal time for our province. Ontario is on the front lines of the trade war with the US. The impact of the sectoral tariffs will land hardest in our province. Our work must focus on defending Ontario’s economy and workers,” said Lapointe.

Lapointe also noted it would be important to seize the opportunities that Ontario presents to Canada. “We have the critical minerals the world needs. We have clean energy, and tech and defence infrastructures that can attract major investments.”

As Chair, MP Lapointe will be responsible for presenting Ontario's priorities at National Caucus and Prime Minister Mark Carney. She will work closely with MPs from across the province to identify key challenges and emerging opportunities facing Ontario communities.
