Statement: MP Lapointe
Racism and divisiveness have no place in our community.
What is meant to be a memorial for the loved ones lost to the opioid crisis was instead used to spread hate and radicalization to violence. Crosses for Change is a space for those who are grieving and carrying the unimaginable pain of losing someone they love.
Our community was built by immigrants and is strengthened by people from diverse backgrounds who chose to make Sudbury home. That is one of the many reasons our city is so resilient and vibrant. What unfolded in our city is deplorable, offensive and to be condemned. There is no place for hateful division, racism, xenophobia, or white nationalism in our communities. We stand united against those who seek to instill hatred and fear in our community.
Sudbury has a history of coming together, uniting, in the face of challenges. Our history shows this. We will continue to support one another, celebrate our diversity, and ensure that our public spaces remain places of caring and belonging for everyone.
