Former Cabinet Minister Catherine McKenna Coming to Sudbury: Visit will include a Fireside Chat and Book Signing
SUDBURY – Former Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, climate justice advocate and author, Catherine McKenna, will visit Greater Sudbury on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026.
McKenna was invited to come to Sudbury by Member of Parliament Viviane Lapointe. The visit is part of McKenna’s national book tour for her memoir; Run Like a Girl: A Memoir of Ambition, Resilience, and Fighting for Change. Lapointe says the former Minister’s connection to Sudbury runs deep. Sudbury’s environmental story from a landscape shaped by decades of mining activity to a world-recognized model of ecological restoration speaks to McKenna’s work on climate action and sustainable communities.
“Catherine McKenna has spent her career fighting for the kind of bold climate action that communities like Sudbury know something about,” says Lapointe. “Sudbury has walked the long road from environmental destruction to recovery, and that story matters on the national and global stage. I can’t think of a more fitting place for this conversation.”
The public evening event for Catherine McKenna will be hosted at Science North. The event will feature a fireside chat and book signing.
“We’re pleased to welcome this event to Science North. Catherine McKenna’s message around climate, resilience, and the role of communities in shaping a more sustainable future connects strongly with the kinds of conversations we aim to make space for. Her leadership also offers an important example for women and girls considering their own paths in science, public life, and beyond,” said Ashley Larose, CEO Science North.
Lapointe says the conversation with McKenna and Sudbury is both timely and compelling. McKenna’s appeal is broad and the fireside chat will be of interest to young women in science and STEM, climate advocates, and anyone considering a run in politics. “Catherine McKenna provides a real and honest account on what it takes to get into and survive in politics as well as breaking barriers in male-dominated spaces. This event is an opportunity to hear firsthand from one of Canada’s most consequential climate ministers,” notes Lapointe.
