MP for Sudbury announces over one million dollars in funding to support access to financial services and resources

SUDBURY – Some people need help to deal with financial matters, whether it’s filing taxes, accessing government benefits or preparing a budget. Today, Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury announced $1,050,000 for the Sudbury Community Service Centre.

The funding will allow the Centre to deliver financial services at no cost to people who need help to manage or better understand their financial affairs. The Centre also provides tailored workshops to seniors, individuals with mental health, developmental and physical disabilities, those marginally housed or homeless, Indigenous communities, victims of domestic violence, and newcomers.

The one-on-one supports are aimed at improving financial health. Financial insecurity can impact every aspect of peoples lives, from their mental health to physical well-being.

“Investing in financial security programs is not just good policy, it is a commitment to stability and opportunity for every citizen in Sudbury,” said MP Lapointe. “For over 50 years, the Sudbury Community Service Centre has been providing financial services throughout Northeastern Ontario. This funding will allow the Centre to expand their services across the region and help those who need it the most.”

“This funding represents a significant investment in the financial well-being of people in our community and throughout Northeastern Ontario. With support from the Government of Canada, through the Social Development Partnerships Program – Children and Families and Prosper Canada, we will be able to continue to expand our reach and provide more low-income individuals and families with access to year-round tax filing, benefits assistance, financial coaching, and financial education services,” said Kevin Cooper, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre. “This funding comes at an important stage of growth for the organization as it provides stability and financial certainty to continue our work, expand into more underserved communities and service more people. We are truly grateful for this vital investment, which helps us empower more people to build financial security and long-term stability.”
