MP Viviane Lapointe Announces Federal Funding for Seniors’ Programs in Sudbury

Sudbury, ON – Today, Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced over $73,000 in federal funding through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) Community-Based stream to support local projects that enhance the well-being and social inclusion of seniors in the community.

The funding will support four local organizations in delivering projects that provide seniors with opportunities to stay active, engaged, and connected. These initiatives will foster social inclusion, promote lifelong learning, and create safer communities for seniors.

The successful recipients of NHSP funding in Sudbury include:

  • Joseph's Health Centre of Sudbury$23,875 to support programs for seniors.

  • Sudbury Queers United Around Diversity Inc.$20,625 to host regular conferences on topics such as online fraud safety, healthy aging, and navigating hate crimes.

  • Centre De Santé Communautaire Du Grand Sudbury$15,000 to offer document preparation workshops for seniors.

  • Rockview Older Adults Club$13,750 to install garden beds that will enable seniors to engage in gardening activities, fostering social and community connections.

“These projects are about investing in local initiatives that directly benefit seniors in our community,” said MP Viviane Lapointe. “By supporting programs that promote safety, inclusion, and wellness, we are helping seniors stay active, engaged, and connected. I am proud to see these organizations receive funding to continue their important work.”

“With the support of the government of Canada, we’re proud to launch a project that amplifies the voices of older adults, particularly those who are often unheard. By listening to their stories and understanding their unique identities, we can break down barriers like discrimination and ageism and provide care that truly meets their needs,” said Kari Gervais, President and CEO, St. Josephs Health Centre.

The NHSP is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects designed by and for seniors, helping them stay involved in their communities and contribute their knowledge, skills, and experience. Since its inception, the program has funded thousands of projects across Canada, enriching the lives of seniors and strengthening communities.
