Kivi Park benefits from $281,000 in Federal investments
January 21, 2025

SUDBURY - Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministers of Energy and Natural Resources and Official Languages, along with Viviane Lapointe, MP for Sudbury, today announced Federal investment of $281,000 to support Kivi Park. $256,000 from FedNor will help the Kivi Park Community Foundation improve and expand its mountain bike trail network. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.

Provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP), Kivi Park is poised to redefine outdoor recreation in Northern Ontario through the creation of a world-class mountain bike trail network. This investment will enhance accessibility, elevate rider experiences, and position Kivi Park as a premier destination for cycling enthusiasts of all skill levels.

The funding will fuel the redesign and expansion of over 21 kilometers of trails, connecting 18 kilometers of existing routes and introducing exciting new segments to create a seamless, safe, and accessible network designed for riders of all ages and abilities. These upgrades will transform the trail network into a vibrant hub for local and visiting mountain bikers alike. A cornerstone of the project is its commitment to inclusivity. By improving trail design to accommodate adaptive mountain bikes, Kivi Park will open its trails to riders with disabilities. In addition, adaptive bikes will be available, ensuring that everyone can experience the joy and freedom of riding in nature.

This project will help solidify Kivi Park as a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts across the province and beyond. From hosting signature cycling events to supporting local initiatives such as winter fat bike races, the expanded network will attract new visitors, drive tourism, and boost the local economy.

Additionally a $25,000 contribution was announced through the New Horizons for Seniors program which is supporting outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, yoga, and ice skating for seniors throughout the year to promote healthy living and social participation
