Supporting Local Businesses means Supporting Sudbury Economy
SUDBURY – It surprises a lot of people to learn that 89% of Canadians who work in private industry work for small local businesses. That’s why it is essential to support Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) according to Member of Parliament for Sudbury, Viviane Lapointe. “When you support local businesses, you are supporting your community,” says Lapointe.
Sudbury has more than 9,000 small and medium sized local businesses. Most of the businesses employ one to four people. And they are about to get a big boost. Last week, the Liberal Federal Government announced that small businesses in Ontario will receive the Canada Carbon Rebate.
The rebates come at a time when local businesses need it most. A small business with 10 employees will receive up to $4,000 and a business with 499 employees can receive up to $200,000.
“As a small, local business focused on environmental sustainability, it can be a difficult existence. Receiving the carbon tax rebate, not only aligns with our purpose, but also helps with our bottom line and costs. It makes it easier for The Nickel Refillery to continue its vision and goal of an environmentally sustainable economy that benefits everyone," said Liz Anawati, Owner/Director of The Nickel Refillery Inc.
The federal government is delivering on its commitment to return proceeds from the price on pollution to small- and medium-sized businesses through the new Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses.
“Supporting local and small businesses in any form is phenomenal. At C&A Steel we strive to reduce our carbon footprint by adding the latest technology to our processes on a regular basis. Receiving these rebates will help us to further our advancements as an industry leader for over 50 years,” said Giovanni Carniel, CEO/Owner C&A Steel (1983) Ltd.
“Helping local businesses is good economic policy. They create good jobs and are invested in their local community. I like to say they are the bedrock of Sudbury,” adds Lapointe.
