MP Lapointe announces over $100,000 for seniors programming in Sudbury

SUDBURY- Canadians deserve to age with dignity. That comes down to choice, to affordability, to inclusion, and to community. The New Horizons for Seniors Program creates those opportunities for seniors to be more connected, supported, and active members of their communities.

Today, Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced an investment of $102,702 for six community-based projects in Sudbury. These projects will help seniors stay active, informed, and socially connected in their community. This funding was awarded through the most recent call for proposals for community-based projects through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). Projects include:

  • L’Arche Sudbury: The Art of Aging - $23,267

  • Coniston Community Garden: Sprinkler Expansion – Seniors Harvest Lunch - $4,790

  • Rainbow Routes Association: Community Hiking - $23,500

  • Réseau ACCESS Network: Rainbow Connections Conference - $22,219

  • Sudbury Queers United Around Diversity (SQUAD): Social Inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ - $17,684

  • Peter’s United Church: Seniors Peer Engagement Project - $11,242

These projects further support the Government’s work to help Canadian seniors age with dignity and choice. The Government's ongoing support for the New Horizons for Seniors Program means more assistance for community-based projects that strengthen our communities and make life better for Canadian seniors.

Quotes
“Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Government of Canada is providing a wide range of opportunities for seniors in Sudbury to participate in meaningful activities where they can share knowledge, skills and experience to the benefit of others. I have seen first-hand from many of these organizations the meaningful impact of programs that support social inclusion for seniors.” – Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament Sudbury
“At L’Arche Sudbury; we have a rich history woven together with stories of relationship and journeying with our senior members. The premise for the Art of Aging Project is to reach out into the Greater Sudbury Community and provide safe and creative spaces that encourages our senior communities to share their lived experience of aging from their unique perspectives. Welcoming a wide spectrum of ages, abilities, and identities; the Art of Aging Project, hosted by L’Arche Sudbury and in collaboration with Myths and Mirrors, will provide seven workshops for seniors to share their stories through a variety of art and expressive mediums. Each voice will be heard, supported, magnified and transformed into a public art presentation, which will culminate in a Gala Presentation in a community space.” – Suzanne Thibault, Program Leader, Community Participation Services & Supports, L'Arche Sudbury Inc.
