MP Lapointe and MP Serre announce investment of $205,000 to expand local trail network in Sudbury
August 24, 2023
Today, Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of
Official Languages, and Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced a non-repayable
FedNor contribution of $205,000 to support the expansion of Kivi Park’s existing network of trails and boost
tourism to the region. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of
Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.
The funding has helped complete 15km of multi-use trail around Crowley Lake and Linton, located in the south
end of Kivi Park. This includes 10km of ski trail expansion, almost doubling the existing network of world-class
trails. The additional ski trails are allowing Kivi Park to complete a 10-lane biathlon range, making it one of the few
locations in Northern Ontario able to host biathlon races for both able-bodied and para-athletes.
This important project has been led by volunteers driven to see Kivi Park transformed into a premier destination
for recreation, training and sporting competition. The expansion will boost tourism in the region by allowing the
park to host larger events year-round, making it an ideal location for provincial and national sporting events.
