August 3 2022–

Canadian cities and towns thrive when they have community spaces that promote social gatherings and provide access to recreational programs and facilities. These amenities are integral to the overall well-being of individuals, families and communities.

Today, Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced a FedNor investment of $195,393  through FedNor, and the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), to help the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario (YMCA NEO) modernize two of its existing facilities located in Greater Sudbury and Timmins. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.

As part of the project, YMCA NEO’s Sudbury facility will undergo extensive renovations to improve accessibility by adding push buttons and creating barrier-free access across the campus. Upgrades will be also be made to the front desk area to help increase safety and accessibility for staff, volunteers, members and citizens entering the facility.

FedNor funding will also allow YMCA NEO to complete a variety of green and structural upgrades designed to increase safety and efficiency, and reduce the carbon footprint of its Timmins operations. Specifically, the funding will be used to install a new roof and exterior cladding, improve insulation and upgrade florescent fixtures to high-efficiency LED lighting. Once complete, the upgrades will allow the organization to reduce energy costs and consumption, maintain services and make the facility safer for all users.
